More than 50 people attended the launch of Rural Health Week 2011 in the new gymnasium at the Scottsdale Primary School on Friday 15th April. Guests included Geoff Lyons MHR, Mayor Barry Jarvis (Dorset Council), Phil Morris representing the Department of Health and Human Services and Associate Professor Tony Barnett from the University of Tasmania.
Ms Helen Munro, Principal of the Scottsdale Primary School, welcomed guests to the school, while students entertained everyone with their Picasso Cow Song.
In launching the week, Health Minister Michelle O’Byrne encouraged community groups to apply for grants of up to $2,500, and rural Tasmanians to nominate local champions of health and wellbeing.
